Purple, in partnership with Snyder Consulting, and the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) UK, conducted two pieces of research in 2022. (i) Labor trajectories and aspirations of Nepali adult entertainment sector workers (ii) The role of labor intermediaries for workers in Nepal and the International adult entertainment sector. The research highlights that female workers face wage gaps, discrimination, sexual harassment within Nepal, and legal restrictions on migrating internationally for work. These patriarchal restrictions on labour mobility may have been well-intentioned, aiming to protect women from international trafficking and labour and sexual exploitation, but they appear to be misguided. A one-day workshop was organized among government officials, donors, I/NGOs, civil society, activists, and media persons in Kathmandu to share the findings, attended by around one hundred participants.
