Trafficking in persons is a serious problem in Nepal. Thousands of men, women, and children are being trafficked for labor exploitation and sexual exploitation. The Nepal government has taken the steps to prevent the problem, though trafficking remains a serious challenge. According to the trafficking in person report by Nepal Human Rights Commission (NHRC), it is estimated that 1.5 million Nepalis are vulnerable to human trafficking. The Nepal government has established a national anti-trafficking task force and passed several laws aimed at preventing and prosecuting trafficking, including the human trafficking and transportation (control) Act and Foreign Employment Act. However, enforcement of these laws is often weak, and corruption, impunity, political protection, and lack of access to justice remain significant barriers to progress.
